Score CollectiveHenriëtte Bosmans’ Nuit calme and Alphons Diepenbrock’s Berceuse are perhaps two of the most beautiful early-20th-century Dutch works for cello. And Jules Massenet arranged many of his own orchestral songs for cello, piano and voice. It’s works such as these that are some of cellist Pieter Wispelwey, mezzo-soprano Cora Burggraaf and pianist Ed Spanjaard’s favourites. We’ll also be hearing a very different Pieter Wispelwey in a new cello concerto that the young Turkish-Dutch composer Meriç Artaç wrote for him. With cello concerto Rimpelingen, Maya Fridman will be demonstrating why she’s such a great fan of composer Jan-Peter de Graaff, who’d previously dedicated his Cello Concerto No. 2 to Fridman.
